​Erich Gruenberg

Acclaimed as one of Britain’s most distinguished violinists, Erich Gruenberg was born in Vienna where he began his musical education at the age of 6. He continued his studies in Jerusalem and eventually settled in London after winning the Carl Flesch International Violin Competition which resulted in his London debut, playing the Brahms Violin Concerto with the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall.

As Soloist he has appeared with all the major British Orchestras and has toured throughout the world collaborating with such conductors as Sir Colin Davis, Sir Andrew Davis, Gennadi Rozhdestvensky, Kondrashin, Sir Simon rattle, Sir Charles Mackerras, Andrew Previn and Michael Tilsen-Thomas to mention but a few.

Erich Gruenberg has held the position of concertmaster of the LSO and the RPO. His comprehensive activities in the field of chamber music, numerous recordings, premieres and commissions have enriched an outstanding career.

Erich is a professor at the Royal Academy of Music. He gives master-classes and is invited to serve on many juries around the world. Most recently he was invited to chair the jury of the Fritz Kreisler International Competition in Vienna. He is chairman of the trustees of the Hattori Foundation for Young Musicians.

In recognition of his services to music he was awarded the O.B.E.
