St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle

Windsor Castle,
Windsor,
Berkshire,
SL4 1NJ

St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle was commissioned by Edward IV in 1475 to replace the original chapel built by Henry III, where the Albert Memorial Chapel now stands. The construction was completed by Henry VIII in 1528. Edward IV and Henry VIII are buried there, along with nine other monarchs, including Queen Elizabeth II.

The Chapel has played a central role in the Festival since its founding by the Dean of Windsor in 1969. Many significant performances have taken place in St George's, including Walton’s Belshazzar’s Feast, Vaughan Williams’ Sea Symphony, Holst’s The Planets, and Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man.

St George’s continues to serve as a unique and beautiful venue for Festival concerts. It is also integral to the Festival’s work with young people, particularly through collaborations with the Berkshire Music Trust and Taplow Choirs.
